To walk in the steps of my Saviour
Is trying for me at time
You see my heart is still worldly
And my thoughts not quite divine.

But as I think of my Savior
And the steps He took for me
The reviling, mocking and scorn
All the way to Calvary.

I have to oft-times think
How hard it must have been
For my Jesus to bear such agony
To bring willing souls to him.

And then I ponder “am I willing”
To lay down my fleshly lust
To walk in the steps of my Saviour
Then I realize that yes, I must.

For if Jesus had lived for self
As I many times long to do
The Father would not have been glorified
And my life not made anew.

He willing gave up his life
And walked the narrow way
To set for me an example
Of the dear price I must pay.

Now, I do not get beaten or whipped
Or have a thorn-crowned brow
I am never left completely alone
Or forced through a scowling crowd.

No, my walk is quite a bit different
I have Jesus to walk with me
He is my strong tower and refuge
Through this lifes’ tempestuous sea.

I must meet with him in prayer
His advice I need to heed
To continue on the narrow way
A sure foundation for my feet.

Yes, He is very dear to me
My Saviour and my God
His precious life He gave for me
When He left this earthly sod.

He took the sting of death away
And set me free from sin
Now, all that I need do
Is render my all to Him.

For he will transform my thinking
A new heart He will give
A Spirit that is ever living
If I continually abide in Him.

Oh Praise Him, Praise Him my soul
Exalt Him above all else
Lay down self on the alter
For truly He deserves no less.
