Prayer Request
Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Dearest Partners in the Ministry,
We would appreciate if you would keep Hector Bustillo and his family in prayer. Hector works with Mision Caribe as one of the ministers in their church. He is also the brother-in-law of Eduardo. Last Friday Hector was driving to a town called Danli (an hr. or so away). He was driving pretty fast and a motorcyclist pulled out in front of him. He could not avoid hitting him. The young man was thrown quite a distance and Hector believed he was dead on the scene. Hector was detained at the police station and retained a lawyer. He was finally released later that night.
It turned out the motorcyclist was still alive and was transported to Tegucigalpa and put on a ventilator. At the hospital they discovered him to be brain dead. He died on Tuesday. Hector under the law is responsible for all costs and they purchased the casket for the funeral. The young man was 25 years old and to be married next year. He was a Christian as is his mother, and was involved in the worship ministry of his congregation. However, a portion of the family are not Christians. Vengeance over the death of a family member is very real here and we'd ask for prayer for the family members of the departed that God would comfort their hearts and put out any fires of vengeance.
Today Hector was able to recover his vehicle. The oldest brother was in contact with Hector's wife Magdalene today and was angered over the vehicle being taken back. He said that Hector's family was now going to see the extent to which they would pursue this. Apparently by law in the case of manslaughter you can get 5 years in jail. You can pay a fine to the state and be set free which Hector did. However, the family can still seek damages which could be in the form of time spent in jail or anywhere from 100,000 lempiras to one million (possibly the older brother was assuming the truck would now belong to them). Hector is guilty by the law and we are praying that God would be merciful in this circumstance and in the end be glorified in the hearts of all. Please be in prayer for Hector, Magdalena and their family in this uncertain time.
God bless you and thank you on behalf of the Bustillo family.
